Higher education is facing more challenges than ever before in Afghanistan, which needs adequate leadership to ensure the sector remains relevant in a competitive global context. In 2011, a small group of people had an extraordinary vision to establish an Islamic Private University in Afghanistan. Today, Azhar Higher Education institute (AHEI) is Afghanistan’s most reputed independent Islamic institution, with a comprehensive total annual enrolment of 700 students and over 4000 alumni. Over the past 10 years, Azhar Higher Education Institute has been able to step on the path of Success and hitting halfway to reach the millstone of its vision “an institution of the highest grade”. This has been possible because of the university’s dedicated leadership throughout its history. It takes many people to successfully govern a nationally ranked educational Institution, from the president and other officers to the AHEI Board of Trustees to each member of the Institute’s committees.
